Elgin Watch Co., Elgin, Illinois, man's silver pocket watch, 18 size, 7 jewels, stem wind and lever set gilt plate movement with lever escapement and cut bimetallic balance in a coin silver, engraved, box hinge hunting case, the covers each with wreath ornament, and the back cover with engraved horse, roman numeral, single sunk white enamel dial, blued steel spade hands, serial #1978947, c1885.
CONDITION:
CASE: Shallow dents; A few dings; Scratches on outer surface of case; Scratches and abrasion on inner surface of case; Front cover worn at catch, frequently opens without depressing crown; Front cover with gap at band when closed; Rear cover snap worn; Crown with wear; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Scratches minor to dial; Specks of dirt / dust. HANDS: Mismatched; Minor losses to blue. MOVEMENT PLATES: Fine scratches and scuffs on plate; Regulator with specks of oxide; Dirty. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks), low amplitude, needs service.
